The first-generation Chevrolet Corvette (C1), built from 1953 to 1962, had a slow start in the market, especially with its early inline-six engine. The introduction of a V8 in 1955 improved performance, but the true transformation came when Zora Arkus-Duntov joined Chevrolet and helped turn the Corvette into a serious sports car. By 1956, a complete redesign and stronger performance focus marked its rebirth.
This 1956 Corvette is a rare, award-winning example recognized by the National Corvette Restorers Society. Of the roughly 3,400 produced that year, only 111 were equipped with the desirable “GU code” performance package. This option included a 265ci V8 with dual carburetors and a high-lift camshaft, producing 240 horsepower and paired with a 3-speed manual transmission.
Finished in Polo White with a red interior, the car was professionally restored in 2006 and remains in excellent condition. With correct components, strong presentation, and limited production, it stands out as a highly collectible and significant early Corvette.
